In this new volume, Ron Winkler investigates how the speed of language’s flow changes in movement. The biotopes he analyzes can be found in the “desolation of all Europeans,” as well as on the “narrative surfaces of the glacial.” But they are always also inscribed deep into the body. Not least, Winkler maps childhood—sometimes with a cool eye and sometimes with a yearning invocation. Winkler’s poems tirelessly seek “excruciating beauty,” including its surprising excesses—yes, that is the aim.
