Elvis lives and he is expecting her in Graceland, fifteen-year-old Antje is convinced of that. So when her parents plan their holidays in the States, she gets excited. But the journey takes them to the north and Graceland is located in the south. Who wants to go there? Not Antje, that’s for sure. And then her friend Nelly suddenly disappears. Amidst the chaos unsuspected possibilities arise and Graceland seems tangibly close. Antje has a plan.

Reviews

»There are books that appear light and innocent on the surface but actually come at you like a sly old dog. They are funny, casual, unpretentious, but all of a sudden they give you a kick in the hollow of your knee, and you realise that they tell in fact a deeply sad and deadly serious story. MEIN INNERER ELVIS by Jana Scheerer is such a book. (...) The author creates wonderfully weird situations, invents quirky characters, includes clever insinuations and develops witty dialogues, where you hear real people talk but nevertheless concentrate on the main facts. Yet for all her humour, irony and severity she never makes her characters look silly but describes them in such an affectionate way, that you cannot help but love them.«
DIE ZEIT (LUCHS Award)

»You will rarely find a book that tells about growing up in such a precise, pitiless, yet entertaining way.«
Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung

»Scheerer draws her characters in a very authentic and humorous way. (...) Although the basic tone of the book sounds light-hearted and lively, it nevertheless tells the sad, impressive and touching story of an outsider who yet has to find her place in the world. (...) A colourful, entertaining and laid-back story about music and life, highly amusing and worth reading also for those beyond sixteen.«
Westdeutsche Zeitung

»Her heroine’s wit is analytically revealing, as she dismantles the family structures. She’s an laconic outsider who, at times, touches the reader very deeply.«
Berliner Zeitung

»A literary road movie with fun and depth. (...) Jana Scheerer, who landed her first success with MEIN VATER, SEIN SCHWEIN UND ICH puts herself right into the emotional world of a pubescent teenager in her charming and hilarious new novel MEIN INNERER ELVIS. And she surely can cut the slang with the kids.«
Westdeutscher Rundfunk

»Antje wants to see Elvis, Nelly wants to leave, so the two girls run away together. What happens then is crazy, turbulent, and highly unusual. And it all ends with a guitar on a stage (...) Comedy at its best. (...) Go out and get this terrific book!«
Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk (MDR Sputnik)

»An exciting roadtrip brimming with large and small adventures and delicate nuances, such as what makes solidarity and real friendship.«
Graceland (Elvis Presley Fanzine)

»In the end, not only does Antje find Elvis, but also herself - because deep down inside in each of us is a little King, waiting to be discovered.«
Die Presse

»Must read.«
BuchMarkt

»A wonderfully witty, deep and shrewd book.«
Nürnberger Zeitung
